      Hi,

Our site https://soundbetter.com has been live for 2 years now, and as of yet we haven't yet been able to get our PageRank above 3/10.

We have thousands of unique pages and plenty of original contextual content, we avoid duplicate content best we can, follow google's best practices for site structure, deal with any issues that come up in webmaster tools, have schema.org markup, avoid link spamming, have inbound links from authority sites (though OSE doesn't show most of them for some reason), lots of social shares to our pages and the domain has been owned by us for 12 years.

Any thoughts on why we would still have a PR of 3?

      Thanks for helping

The pagerank won't update. What you have now is what you'll have (probably forever). Good thing is that pagerank doesn't count. Your low DA/PA is due to the few links or low quality links you may have. If you want to increase it, you'll need more links (from high PA pages of course).

Shaq, the reason it is not higher is, because it wasn't updated at all since 2013.

Regarding DA, check again the http://azwa.1clkaccess.in/learn/seo/domain-authority link that I have provided in my previous answer.

Moz clearly states, that you can not directly(or it can be a hard task to) influence this metric (check the SEO best practices part in the bottom of the article).

          Quote:
"Unlike other SEO metrics, Domain Authority is difficult to influence directly. It is made up of an aggregate of metrics (MozRank, MozTrust, link profile, and more) that each have an impact on this score. This was done intentionally; this metric is meant to approximate how competitive a given site is in Google.com. Since Google takes a lot of factors into account, a metric that tries to calculate it must incorporate a lot of factors, as well.

The best way to influence this metric is to improve your overall SEO. In particular, you should focus on your link profile—which influences MozRank and MozTrust—by getting more links from other well-linked-to pages."

            Thanks Alick, Moosa and Keszi,

We realize PR is no longer as important a factor as it used to be, but it still is a factor and represents something, and we can't figure out why it's not higher.

We look at domain authority in OSE as well and it's 29, also lower than we'd expect it to be.

As Alick300 has mentioned, Pagerank is a metric that we do not use anymore.

I would advise you to check the metrics that Moz is using: PA, DA, mR, DmR, and in case you are a Pro member, you could also check mT and DmT:

              1. PA: Page authority: http://azwa.1clkaccess.in/learn/seo/page-authority
              2. DA: Domain authority: http://azwa.1clkaccess.in/learn/seo/domain-authority
              3. mR&DmR: mozRank and domain mozRank: http://azwa.1clkaccess.in/learn/seo/mozrank
              4. mT&DmT: mozTrust and domain level mozTrust: http://azwa.1clkaccess.in/learn/seo/moztrust
              5. spam score: http://azwa.1clkaccess.in/blog/spam-score-mozs-new-metric-to-measure-penalization-risk

Be aware that these are only metrics and in some cases increasing these metrics doesn't necessarily mean that you will rank better: Correlation <> Causation (check the article I have linked into the spam score, by Rand).

Also you could check the whiteboard Friday: http://azwa.1clkaccess.in/blog/understanding-and-applying-mozs-spam-score-metric-whiteboard-friday

I hope this will be helpful to you.

As far as my understanding goes, Domain Authority counts the number of link coming to your website and not really the quality of links so if you want to increase your DA you not only have to look in to quality but quantity as well.

                Hope this helps!

                  Hi,

Page rank last updated on December 2013 & John Muller says "we’re probably not going to be updating it going forward".

So I would like to suggest you to check MozRank ( moz version of PR) instead of PR & PA ,DA.

                  Thanks

Are In-Page Tabs still detrimental to SEO?

Hi Mozers, Are in-page tabs still detrimental for SEO? In-page tabs: allow you to  alternate between views within the same context, not to navigate to different areas.  As in one long HTML page that just looks like it's divided into different pages via tabs that you can click between. Each tab has it's own URL, which I guess is for analytics tracking purposes? https://XXX https://XXX?qt-staff_profile_tabs=1 https://XXX?qt-staff_profile_tabs=2 https://XXX?qt-staff_profile_tabs=3

Is single H1 tag still best practice?

Hi Guys, Is having a single h1 tag still best practice for SEO? Guessing multiple h1 tags dilute the value of the tag and keywords within the tag. Thoughts? Cheers.

                    Uppercase/Lowercase Reading As Duplicate Permalinks

I cannot figure out if this is an actual SEO issue or just a crawl reader error. I use Screaming Frog to crawl my site and use their SEO features. When I look at page titles and duplicates it shows all our pages twice... some with 1 letter capitalized and the other not. I don't REALLY have duplicate permalinks do I? I also noticed when I use some open site explorers and paste in both permalinks the specs will show for the permalink that's all lowercase but it won't find anything for the "duplicate" permalink that is capitalized. Below I included a few screenshots. Thank you Moz Fam! Q6866xZNUfpF cxXacVajCBGb

What can we do to optimize / be mobile-friendly for PDFs?

I'm getting a "Your page is not mobile-friendly." notice in the SERPs for all of our PDFs.  I check the pdf on the phone and it appears just fine. rFtLq

Embedding PDF previews and maintaining crawlability/link-equity.

One site that I'm working on has previously had a great deal of success from the pdf preview content on the site. The pdf previews are quite substantial and rank for many many long-tail terms that drive a reasonable amount of traffic back to the site to purchase the full version of the product. As part of a site redesign, the way the pdf previews are embedded/presented on the page is changing slightly: The proposed modal pop-up on the new site the code looks like thie: <object data="my-pdf-preview.pdf" type="application/pdf" style="width:100%; min-height:600px; max-height:100%;max-height:100%;"><embed src="my-pdf-preview.pdf" type="application/pdf"></object> Where as the old code looked like this: <object data="mt-pdf-previewpreview.pdf#view=FitH,50&scrollbar=1&toolbar=0&statusbar=0&messages=0&navpanes=0" <br="">type='application/pdf'
                    width='100%'
height='600'> It appears your Web browser is not configured to display PDF files. No worries, you can download the PDF file here.</object> Note: how previously the code contained a plain, standard link to the pdf document. My worry is that without this link, search engines won't a) be able to discover/crawl the pdf content or b) pass any link-equity to these pdfs. Does anyone have any experience/recommendations about this? I'd like to have some information before I request that they add a plain link to the pdf previews back onto the on-page content.

Membership/subscriber (/customer) only content and SEO best practice

Hello Mozzers, I was wondering whether there's any best practice guidance out there re: how to deal with membership/subscriber (existing customer) only content on a website, from an SEO perspective - what is best practice? A few SEOs have told me to make some of the content visible to Google, for SEO purposes, yet I'm really not sure whether this is acceptable / manipulative, and I don't want to upset Google (or users for that matter!) Thanks in advance, Luke

Delete or not delete old/unanswered forum threads?

Hello everyone, here is another question for you: I have several forum postings on my websites that are pretty old and so they are sort of "dead discussion" threads. Some of those old discussion threads are still getting good views (but not new postings), and so I presume may be valuable for some users. But most of them are just answers to personal questions that I doubt someone else could be interested in. Besides that, many postings are just single, unanswered questions still waiting for an answer, forgotten, they are just sitting there, and will probably stay unanswered for years.... I don't think this may be good for SEO, am I right? How do you suggest to approach this kind of issues on forums or discussions sections on a website? I am eager to know your thoughts on all this. Thank you in advance! All the best, Fab.

Posing QU's on Google Variables "aclk", "gclid" "cd", "/aclk" "/search", "/url" etc

I've been doing a bit of stats research prompted by read the recent ranking blog http://www.seomoz.org/blog/gettings-rankings-into-ga-using-custom-variables There are a few things that have come up in my research that I'd like to clear up. The below analysis has been done on my "conversions". 1/. What does "/aclk" mean in the Referrer URL? I have noticed a strong correlation between this and "gclid" in the landing page variable. Does it mean "ad click" ?? Although they seem to "closely" correlate they don't exactly, so when I have /aclk in the referrer Url MOSTLY I have gclid in the landing page URL. BUT not always, and the same applies vice versa. It's pretty vital that I know what is the best way to monitor adwords PPC, so what is the best variable to go on? - Currently I am using "gclid", but I have about 25% extra referral URL's with /aclk in that dont have "gclid" in - so am I underestimating my number of PPC conversions? 2/. The use of the variable "cd" is great, but it is not always present. I have noticed that 99% of my google "Referrer URL's" either start with:
                    /aclk   - No cd value
                    /search - No cd value
/url - Always contains the cd variable. What do I make of this?? Thanks for the help in advance!
